- has over 29 years practice and teaching Iyengar Yoga
- has an accumulated four years of total immersion in general, medical and intensive classes at the Ramanani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institue in Pune, India
- organized the International Women's Intensive at RIMYI
- is the author of numerous yoga books and articles
In addition to teaching asana and pranayama, Lois has a special gift in teaching the adaptations of asanas for structural, organic or emotional conditions. Lois holds a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences.
This is Lois’ fifth workshop at SDC. As those of us who attended the classes can attest, her teaching is direct and clear, sharp and focused, challenging and engaging. Lois says,
“Many students pursue yoga to help with physical problems, but as they practice, yoga begins to transform their spirits. As they recognize that yoga itself is joyful, the practice evolves from a focus on physical healing to a broader exploration of the vast science, art and philosophy of yoga.”
Lois’ latest project is Geeta Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Yoga Practice. Vol. 1, which was released in 2006, is a 350 page, heavily illustrated spiral-bound book, which discusses normal and problematic menses, and provides pre- and post-menstrual sequences. Volume 1 covers menstruation and its monthly cycle, and Volume 2 (forthcoming) will focus on practices for pregnancy, postpartum and menopause.
B.K.S. Iyengar praised the book by saying:
"In presenting this work, Lois has done a yeoman’s service to her fellow sisters for keeping themselves in a state of good conditioning, not only their physical and physiological health, but also mental poise and cool composure. It is a book to be possessed by one and all who value life as God’s gift to maintain with honor and dignity. I wish Lois Steinberg all success in her endeavors for the health of women who are the wealth on this planet Earth."
